June 24, 2025 I have internet through a nonprofit called PCsForPeople. It is relatively fast and reliable. What I like most about it is that it is portable and inexpensive, which makes it financially accessible for most people. The router is small and cost me about $150 and the service costs me around $16 a month. I can run a laptop, a phone and a tablet on it at the same time without buffering. Streaming is also relatively stable as long as we aren't trying to stream more than 2 movies simultaneously.
January 10, 2025 PCs for the People provide unlimited internet through TMobile’s network for those with lower income or veterans. You have to buy the hotspot as a one time purchase when you first get internet with them, but subscriptions price varies on how many months you buy, longer being cheaper. You can get up to a year before you have to recertify. Even though it’s inexpensive, service is great. We regularly stream and play games or surf at the same time. The only time we have slow downs is if it’s time to renew or very high cell traffic. It’s super nice to take it with us as it’s portable. This is a great resource more people should know about and take advantage of.
June 20, 2024 My ISP is PCs For People (pscforpeople.com). They’re geared toward low income people. They refurbish PCs, laptops as well as tablets and mobile hotspots. They resell them at very affordable prices to people who qualify. They provide unlimited internet bandwidth at $15/mo. as well. In my case, I purchased a $60 wireless hotspot and started service with them almost 2.5 years ago. Reception is based on T-Mobile towers. I live in a rural desert area. In the beginning, I was satisfied to get a steady 5mbps download, whereas my cell phone with its own hotspot feature is on Verizon towers, which are farther away, has unreliable data. Over the months I noticed an improvement in bandwidth to 10mbps. For me, this has always been a decent bandwidth. Several months ago, apparently all the towers were upgraded and now data flows at 50-80mbps during day and just over 10mbps late evening. Best if all, it’s been quite steady, reliable bandwidth 98% of the time. I mention PCs for People in particular because they have in the past participated in the Federally funded Affordable Connectivity Program that’s been around for years. ACP offers qualified low income households up to $30 discount in internet, etc. (more if you’re on tribal lands). Highly recommended them because they are a great source of affordable, Federally subsidized equipment and services for low income folks!
June 25, 2023 My provider uses T-Mobile's network, and I get it all through the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) on account of my disability from autism. I signed up with them because I live in a rural area where providers like Spectrum don't service the area. PC's for People sent me a Franklin T10, a 4G/LTE hotspot device sold by T-Mobile. I'm very happy with the overall stability and speed of the connection, however, I did stay over at my aunt's house for Thanksgiving, and the connection was significantly worse, at best 2 bars on the signal indicator. So, T-Mobile's network definitely has some blind spots, but it works very well and is incredibly useful during long driving trips.
