HughesNet Satellite
August 05, 2026 ### One star only because zero isn’t an option HughesNet provided, without question, the worst internet service and customer service we have ever experienced. We remained customers for seven years—not because we were satisfied, but because we live in a rural area and had no other viable option. The service was never consistently reliable. Streaming a complete movie was nearly impossible. Calls repeatedly dropped, including calls made to HughesNet’s own customer service department because the connection was so unstable. When that happened, they wouldn’t call us back, and we often couldn’t reconnect with them to finish resolving the problem. HughesNet repeatedly claimed we had used all our data, even during periods when we had barely streamed anything and hadn’t managed to watch complete movies. We were told that exceeding the data allowance would only result in slower speeds, but what we experienced wasn’t merely a slowdown—the service would become completely disrupted and practically unusable. Technical support was equally frustrating. Technicians would identify problems or recommend solutions, only for HughesNet to refuse to authorize or implement what its own technicians recommended. We spent years calling, troubleshooting, repeating the same information, and being passed around without receiving a lasting solution. We paid every month for a service that frequently failed to provide even basic, dependable internet access. The moment fiber internet finally became available in our area, we left HughesNet. Since switching, the difference has been unbelievable: reliable service, uninterrupted streaming, stable calls, and none of the constant excuses or mysterious data problems we dealt with before. That alone confirmed that our devices and usage were not the real issue. Seven years with HughesNet gave them more than enough opportunity to provide the service and support we were paying for. They consistently failed at both. I would never recommend HughesNet to anyone. If it appears to be your only option, investigate absolutely every possible alternative before signing up. Being without internet may be less aggravating than paying for internet that repeatedly doesn’t work.

T-Mobile Home Internet Fixed Wireless
March 06, 2026 Overall, T-Mobile’s WiFi service is generally reliable. Download/upload speeds are typically 250/20 or so. Thus, speeds are not bad but not lightening fast. During busy times your speeds will be significantly slower.

XFINITY Cable
February 28, 2026 I wish I had good things to say about xfinity. But this morning I literally had my 7th chat with them about the same issue. I have been all but begging them to remove "flex" which is a supposedly free add-on streaming service. I was charged once for them, asked them to remove it, they said it was removed. Since then I have spent the following year and a half trying to deal with the equipment fee. (I've never had any equipment.) and to have it removed from my bill as it STILL shows. I was assured this morning by the 2nd person I had on chat that it had been escalated (the first person suddenly disconnected when I asked what assurances I had that the issue was resolved, leaving me to have to start all over with 2nd rep). By the end of the chat she told me it was done. I am not holding my breath. This is typical for any issue I've had with xfinity. From service that drops to issues with coverage in my small apartment, to going with a package that includes free pods that will extend coverage only to find out that I only get free pods IF the test they run shows I need them (it didn't), you would think customer service might be doing their best to please their customers. They're not. If I could leave easily, I would but apparently this is the best service in my area.

Quantum Fiber
February 22, 2026 I am overall satisfied with the service provided by Quantum and am very happy with the price, it's a third of the price we were paying our previous provider. However, there have been several times when our internet service has gone down and I find it hard to get information on why or what is happening. There is an outage map on their website but it doesn't give detailed information like how long the service interruption is expected to last. There has been just one time that service was down for several days, and they did offer a credit for the following month's service charge which I very much appreciated. Despite the outages we've experienced I definitely prefer the fiber optic service because it's much faster than cable and we get better wifi service throughout our entire two story house.
