Verizon Fixed Wireless

February 20, 2026

My father used to own AT&T U-Verse DSL internet (along with a landline), but our service randomly went out one day. He decided that the price he was paying for a service that he couldn't use, along with poor customer service, was not worth it. I took over for the internet services, and I remember receiving cards in the mail for Verizon 5G Home Internet, which is a competitor to AT&T Internet Air and T-Mobile 5G Home Internet, since we don't receive fiber in our area.

Verizon was my first thought when it came to home internet, given our reduced trust in AT&T after the data breach, and T-Mobile was not providing its home internet services at the time. I also chose to avoid T-Mobile since they are the most popular provider in the area (a TON of people here use Metro by T-Mobile), which means congested cell towers and reduced speeds.

My internet speeds could be better, but for the most part, I get by alright with gaming on most days. There are days when the cell towers are so congested that I can't play multiplayer shooters like Marvel Rivals or Overwatch 2 because I would get disconnected and kicked from lobbies due to high ping, packet loss, and dropped frame rate. There are even those awful days when my service is out completely. Other than that, my current internet plan suits my basic needs. I am not a highly competitive gamer; I play very casually. The main driving factor into getting me to switch is if my internet connection becomes so poor that it interferes with the ability for me to be able to use it comfortably.

I do not have other options here that are affordable yet work well. Our household makes too much to be able to qualify for the ACP (Affordable Connectivity Program), but since I'm paying for the wifi, and I earn a limited income, I cannot afford to pay for Spectrum cable internet, either (and I have heard negative things about them). Where I live, our options are limited, and 5G is basically that healthy balance between affordable and efficient.

Spectrum Cable

I have been using the 500 Mbps internet package of Spectrum as a customer now over a few years and it can be summed up as a stable and a good experience. All the downloading is quick at all times of the day and I seldom have to buffer when streaming or playing a game. The only thing to criticize is upload speed, which can be improved, especially in case of people who work at home or transfer big files on a daily basis, but most tasks and actions will work great. The installation is easy, customer service is prompt as it is required and there are no data caps, a huge plus. Although the monthly rate is slightly overpriced as compared to other firms, its performance and stability would justify its purchase by families with more than one user or device.

Spectrum Cable

I've been with Spectrum for around 7 years now. Their price for their speeds seems fair and I bundle it with cable as well. Although they have had outages you can usually track them on their app to get estimates on when you can expect services to resume. The app is very user friendly and how I track and make payments. For the last 3 years I recommend spectrum to friends and family if they have the option.

The customer service takes too long to answer. When they do answer you back, their attitude is not the greatest. And also the bundles they gave are not really what is wanted in this household. However, we have no choice but to take the bundle option despite not using those specific services such as the phone landlines.
