Optimum Fiber
August 17, 2024 This review will be tailored to Optimum’s provided internet service. While before and after was mostly fine, the peak pandemic era of 2020 was plagued by intermittent outages of upwards of 2-3 hours experienced by not only by myself, but other friends/colleagues who also use Optimum. A more consistent problem is that the WiFi provided is slow, insufficiently slow for many of the more intense bandwidth tasks such as gaming and streaming that I undertook. The problem was significant to the point where we invested in a different router that provided much higher speeds, increasing to around 300-450mbps from about 50 to 100mbps before installation. Note that the modem remained unchanged.

Verizon Fiber
March 09, 2023 I had to recently change my internet provider since my previous one was not working for me. I changed to Verizon because they offered me a better service even though it would be more expensive. It costs a lot more but ever since I got it installed I have been happy with the new service and I can stream without a problem. They offered me other perks on top of better service and thanks to my college and additional perks from the company my bill is actually cheaper than it used to be.

Spectrum Cable
July 06, 2026 Spectrum is slow, has poor customer service and also has a monopoly in my area. There is no competition. 5G internet service is not available as there is very poor cell signal at my home. Additionally, Verizon began running FiOS to my neighborhood and then stopped. I can only guess because Spectrum holds the cable franchise rights in the town of Glenville and is fighting to hold on to whatever market share they have.
