Concord Broadband Fiber

We are extremely lucky in our community to have the choice of high quality internet services provided by our local power company. The Municipal Light Department began by installing a fibre optic network in town to monitor smart meters being installed to better manage electricity. I don't know who came up with the idea of piggy-backing the provision of internet services on top of the existing service, but it has been tremendously successful.

For a $150 installation fee, they bring fiber directly inside the house and provide a highspeed modem, which provides excellent connectivity and reaches our entire house with WiFi.

The cheapest plan of $50 per month provides high upload and down load speets, and in a house with two adults using computers much of the day, with two kids and a smart TV delivering streaming, we have never had bandwidth problems. In addition in four years of services, we have only experienced two service outages, both less than 10 minutes, and explanations were communicated by a town-wide telephone call, so that we did not wait in the dark.

Much kudos to the town of Concord, Massachusetts for this initiative.
