I am frustrated at the lack of ISP options in our area and feel trapped with this company. I understand being located in a rural area limits options for several services, however, cell phone service, for instance, is something we still have several service options for. I'm not sure why the internet is any different. This business is protected from competition by the federal government, limiting competition, and creating a monopoly. Yes, it is true that universal service/ broadband initiatives designed to keep the rural world connected to larger areas help fund initial projects like fiber, etc. to these smaller companies but don't offset all the costs. I understand the thought process of needing to protect these smaller companies so larger corporations don't wait until the labor is done and then swoop in and take over, pushing the little guys out. But seriously, there needs to be a reasonable time limit on this. However, this creates a monopolistic environment and traps customers. We have no other option for internet services in our area and therefore HAVE to pay whatever price is set by this company. It's 2025. Internet should not be treated under the same protections as utility services and I believe the rural ISP market needs to have fewer restrictions, so prices can be made more affordable for the consumer.
